MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur — In a bid to bolster environmental conservation efforts and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, the Provincial ENRE Office of Lanao del Sur joined hands with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Lanao del Sur in a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing, accompanied by a Tree-Growing Activity held at Brgy. Malimono, Marawi City, on March 8, 2024.

The MOA is a priority agenda of the BARMM Government, led by Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim and MENRE Minister Akmad A. Brahim through MENRE-Forest Management Services Director Abdul-Jalil S. Umngan. It outlines a strategic partnership framework between PENREO Lanao del Sur and BFP-LDS. Their roles include advancing reforestation initiatives, wildfire prevention, and ecosystem restoration. PENREO LDS, on the other hand, provides technical expertise, seedlings, and logistics support, while BFP-LDS contributes workforce and resources to ensure the successful implementation of the initiatives.

As part of the collaborative endeavor, a tree-growing activity was organized where 200 seedlings of Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) were planted, symbolizing the commitment of both agencies to environmental stewardship. During the activity, key officials emphasized collective action in addressing environmental challenges. They also highlighted the importance of preserving and restoring forests as carbon sinks and habitats for biodiversity.

Attendees included City GSO Mohamad Gondarangin, Provincial Fire Marshall Ysrael M. Kamid, BFP Personnel, MENRE Personnel, and local community members.

The event concluded with a sense of optimism and a renewed commitment to working together to safeguard the environment for future generations. As the nation continues to grapple with the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, partnerships like the one forged between PENREO Lanao del Sur and BFP-LDS serve as a beacon of hope, illustrating the power of collaboration in addressing pressing environmental issues and building a more sustainable future.
