ISABELA CITY, Basilan — The Provincial Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy Office (PENREO) of Basilan partnered with the Solidaridad IDP-Foundation Inc. to instill environmental consciousness among the province’s youth in the recently conducted “Eco Camp,” at Eco Park, Upper Maliqui, Isabela City, Basilan on April 4.

Solidaridad IDP-Foundation Inc. aims to enhance opportunities for the youth. This focuses on job-building and promoting education for their overall wellbeing.

In response to the significant initiative of the said partner, PENREO-Basilan has made a positive contribution by providing 100 seedlings of Red Nato tree (Palaquium luzoniense).

Moreover, the presentations from PENREO personnel, Administrative Officer Ferdinand Villena and Development Management Officer Jordana Khadija S. Castillo, captivated the audience as she discussed the pressing issue and the pivotal role the youth can play in combating climate emergencies.

Meanwhile, Villena conducted a hands-on orientation on planting seedlings, guiding participants through each step with practical advice.

The said camp fruited an impressive turnout of 100 participants, comprising young ‘Khalifa’ such as eco-scouts aged 7-20, together with their guardians, dedicated barangay officials, and representatives from the LGU-Isabela City.
