PASAY CITY — A ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) – BARMM and the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers Inc. (PSME) was held during the 70th PSME National Convention on 16-22 October 2022 at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City, Manila.

PSME is a professional mechanical engineering association duly organized and existing under the laws of the Philippines with a purpose of uniting mechanical engineers. This promotes cooperation with other professional disciplines and government agencies in enhancing public services and any other possible areas of cooperation, collaboration, and synergy.

In search of groups, institutions, and individuals who will be instrumental in realization of its objectives, including the reinforcement and fortification of its livewire, MENRE intends to open its doors to other entities and individuals who are willing to partake in following its mandate under pertinent laws, and rules and regulations especially when it concerns environment and energy.

The MOA aims to establish coordination and assistance to enhance the upskill and professionalization of MENRE technical personnel and services, as well as to strengthen the capacities of its current staff and workforce.

Among other roles in the said agreement, PSME shall serve and provide professional support and technical consultations; contribute free access to the PSME pool of engineers with specialized technical engineering skills and expertise in various fields of environmental science, energy and power; and to deliver certain functions correlative to the expertise of its engineers, and in parallel to the necessary exercises and engagements that may be entered into by the both parties.

On the other hand, MENRE shall implement its proper conduct of its authority in accordance with the said agreement; to endeavor the compliance of its personnel, manpower, members of the staff, officers, and officials in the appropriate conformity to set of rules and regulations set forth for the operations of mechanical processes inherent to the directives of its system and establishment; and to oversee the individuals who are taking part in the administration of its projects, activities, official duties, and obligations.

MENRE was represented by Engr. Nasser Awal of Environment Management Services (EMS) and Engr. Datu Shariff Pagayao of Energy Management and Development Services (EMDS). Both were active members of PSME organization, signed as witnesses for MENRE, and participated in the weeklong activity of the PSME.

MENRE hopes that this would be the start of forging connections and linkages to other groups and organizations.
