A geohazard assessment in Sitio Passi, Barangay Tinungkaan, Upi, Maguindanao was conducted by Mines and Geosciences Services (MGS) of MENRE on 17 May 2022 to identify the extent of tension cracks observed in the area last 29 April.

In coordination with the Local Government Unit of Upi through their Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and Municipal Engineering Office, MGS Director II, Raphael L. Remo immediately sent a team consisting of Geologists Leah I. Mapula and Joshua Mari S. Batucan and Cartographer Ismudan D. Isnain Jr. to the esenyurt escort incident area. They identified that two houses were damaged due to the said incident and the upper northernmost portion of the road leading to a farmland was also severely affected. Also, a seventy five (75)-meter long tension crack was observed along the secondary road in Sitio Passi, Barangay Tinungkaan. This road is connected to the main road of Upi going to Barangay Bungcog and Bugabungan.

According to local residents, these cracks were present prior to the investigation and aggravated after 29 April when continuous heavy rainfall occurred.

Final assessment and recommendations will be provided by the MGS to the LGU of Upi, Maguindanao.
