COTABATO CITY — The Energy Management and Development Services (EMDS) of the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) – BARMM chaired the 1st Regular Meeting of the Energy Infrastructure Development Sub-Committee held on 9 December 2021 at Nursalam Hall, Alnor Convention Center, Cotabato City.

EMDS Director Nasiri B. Abas represented MENRE on behalf of BARMM Senior Minister and MENRE Minister Abdulraof A. Macacua to lead the said regular meeting. Further, Engr. Mohajirin T. Ali, Director General of the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA), acts as Vice-Chair of the Sub-Committee.

“To attain our goals and objectives for energy sustainability and development, we need to explore more energy resources in our region and make use of efficient, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure in both government and non-government sector,” Director Abas said.

“By providing energy to every household, we attain not only our developmental goals but also peace and order. We believe that when every household has access to necessities such as electricity and power, we can achieve a more peaceful and resilient home and community,” he added.

Energy Infrastructure Development Sub-Committee is part of the Infrastructure Development Committee under the Bangsamoro Economic and Development Council (BEDC). This Sub-Committee will coordinate the formulation and implementation of policies, plans, programs, and projects related to exploration, development, and utilization of energy resources and other investment programs for the energy infrastructure development in the BARMM.

Tackled during the meeting include 1) Reading of Approved BEDC Resolution No.05 Creating the Energy Infrastructure Sub-Committee; 2) Overview of the Energy Salient Points in the BARMM; 3) Current Trends, Issues, and Challenges the BARMM faces on Energy; and 4) Proposed Creation of TWG in support to the formulation of the Energy Development Plans in the BARMM.

Members of the Sub-Committee present during the meeting were MENRE, MPW, MILG, MOTC, MAFAR, MHSD, MIPA, MOST and BPDA
