GENERAL SANTOS CITY— In an unwavering commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability, the BARMM Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy’s (MENRE)- Biodiversity, Ecosystems, Research and Development Services (BERDS) joined and participated in the Damage Assessment, Response, Restoration, konyaaltı escort and Monitoring (DARRM) training on September 12 to 16, at the Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City.

The event, organized by the Coastal and Marine Division of the Biodiversity Management Bureau under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), affords the participants with the skills needed to properly assess, respond to, restore, and monitor natural resources damaged by various factors, including human activities, accidents, and natural disasters.

The impact of this training is significant, especially in light of environmental challenges like pollution incidents, such as oil spills or hazardous substance spills into various environments (freshwater, coastal, marine, or terrestrial). Governments bear profound responsibilities in safeguarding the welfare of their citizens and the environment. In this context, response objectives include the prevention of further pollutant release, containment, and recovery (“cleanup”), protection of sensitive habitats and resources, as well as ensuring the health and welfare of citizens.

Key officials and participants from DENR regions 9 to 13 actively participated in the training alongside representatives from BARMM. Notable attendees included Joeffry L. Kamid, Chief of the Protected Area Management Division, and Japrin L. Hadi-amin, Ecosystem Management Specialist-I Designated Assistant TIWS PASu.

Looking forward, BERDS remains resolute in its mission to protect the environment and natural resources within the region. The MENRE, through its sectoral services like BERDS, is committed to imparting knowledge and skills geared towards preventing and effectively responding to damage caused by human activities, accidents, and natural disasters, with a particular emphasis on protected areas.

The DARRM training is a cornerstone in MENRE-BERDS’ ongoing efforts to nurture environmental guardians and safeguard the region’s invaluable natural resources. It sets the stage for a sustainable and resilient future for the Bangsamoro Region.
