The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) – BARMM led the cleanup activity at the coastal area of Timako Hill on 22 June 2022 with invited participants from different partners for environment—Cotabato City Police, AFP Reserve Command (RESCOM), 6ID Philippine Army, barangay local government unit representatives, and residents from nearby communities.

“Ito lang po ang mundo na biyaya ng ating Maykapal at ang rehiyon ng Bangsamoro ang nag-iisang rehiyon na binigay rin po sa atin,” shared MENRE Bangsamoro Director General Atty. Badr E. Salendab as he reminded the audience about the Environment Month 2022 theme: “Aksyon Para sa Natatanging Mundo.”

“Yung pagvolunteer, importante ‘yun kapag paglinis na ng kalikasan ang pinag-uusapan. Lahat tayo ay dapat naglilinis ng kanya-kanyang paligid natin,” said Hamad, one of the volunteer residents and a father of three.

“Ang paggawa natin ng kabutihan para sa ating kalikasan ay isang uri ng charity. We will be rewarded for our actions for which we will harvest in the Hereafter. Kaya’t malaki ang pasasalamat namin sa tulong at suporta ninyo,” added Forester Lauban S. Abdul, Provincial ENRE Officer of Maguindanao.

The coastal cleanup at Timako Hill serves as one of the major activities conducted in celebration of the Philippine Environment Month 2022 bearing the above-mentioned theme and the tagline #OnlyOneEarth. It was organized by the Environment Management Services led by Director Jalani M. Pamlian and coordinated by the Provincial and Community ENRE Office in Maguindanao. With the still ongoing month-long observance, the Regional and Provincial Offices of the Environment Ministry have been conducting a series of environmental activities such as tree planting and growing, cleanup drives, information campaign, and partnership-building with stakeholders from public and private sectors and the academe.

Under Proclamation No. 237, s. 1988, June is declared the Philippine Environment Month, urging all Filipinos to support and participate actively during the month-long environmental celebration, and to extend time and effort towards the protection and development of our environment.
