SAPA-SAPA, Tawi-Tawi — The Provincial ENRE Office of Tawi-Tawi provided technical assistance on Sustainable Solid Waste Management and Recyclable Program to various sectors in Brgy. Lookan, Banaran, Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi last 4-5 June 2022, coinciding with the observance of World Environment Day 2022.

Initiated by the Kakasie Youth and carried out with the theme “”Kabataan Handang Pangalagaan ang Kapaligiran para sa Umuunlad na Kinabukasan (KAHAPAN KAUMAN)”, the Training of Trainers was participated by the youth sector of kayseri escort Banaran, Barangay Local Government Unit officials, and various stakeholders whose aspirations and advocacy involve addressing the issue on solid waste management.

Through their counterpart for Environment Management Services (EMS) and Biodiversity, Ecosystems, Research, and Development Services (BERDS), the PENRE Office served as resource speakers for the two-day capacity development.

“Addressing environmental issues such as on solid waste management must always involve other stakeholders and sectors for us to build a stronger and tightened partnership in overcoming these challenges,” PENRE Officer Jonel I. Mohammad Monel said.

The PENREO, through this opportunity, also aimed to deliver basic information on environmental impact of waste disposal and its effects on community’s economic growth and the needs for effective waste management policies applicable at the barangay level.

Environmental Management Specialist Sara I. Dalagan of CENREO 5B introduced to the would-be trainers the salient features of Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and the basic components of the Barangay Solid Waste Management Committee. Moreover, Ecosystems Management Specialist Shaleeca Myrah V. Sali, also from CENREO 5B, further explained the concept of zero waste management, highlighting the protocol on identifying environmental issues. These issues discussed included the 1) adverse impacts of marine debris to coastal and marine ecosystems; 2) developing an effective waste management and disposal strategy at the barangay level: zero waste management; 3) drafting of barangay ordinance and policies on solid waste management.
