MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur — Joining the celebration of the 122nd Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, the Provincial ENRE Office of Lanao del Sur spearheaded the cleanup drive at the lakeshore of Brgy. West Caloocan, Marawi City on 27 September 2022. The type of activity the PENREO conducted to observe the 122nd PCSA is also in line with the celebration of the National Cleanup Month this September, with the theme “Fighting for Trash-Free Seas, Pilipinas!”.

The activity was initiated by Provincial ENRE Officer Forester Asmarie M. Labao and Community ENRE Officer of 1st District Forester Asnawi A. Dataman in partnership with BLGU of West Caloocan, Marawi City and local volunteers, who collected 30 sacks of trash of both recyclable and residual wastes weighing about 5 metric tons.

PENREO Labao reiterated the importance of waste segregation at the household level to reduce waste being dumped in Lake Lanao. This is in line with the agency’s directive to assist LGUs in developing and organizing the Barangay Solid Waste Committee. Moreover, he also emphasized that as Muslims, we are bound to observe Tahara (hygiene and cleanliness) as it is one of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to be clean and pure at all times.

CENRE Officer Dataman also mentioned the importance of Lake Lanao as pride of the Meranaws and the need for its further protection and conservation.

Moreover, an information campaign was also organized through a short lecture by the two (2) key personnel from the PENREO, Forester Mindamora Solaiman and Forester Seranie Ditucalan, increasing public awareness of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
