LAMITAN CITY, Basilan – In a collective effort to promote environmental sustainability and education, the Provincial Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy Office (PENREO) of Basilan, in partnership with the Office of the Vice President (OVP), successfully hosted the “PagbaBAGo: A Million Learners and Trees” campaign today, October 14. Held at the Tulip Garden, Barangay Ubit, Lamitan City, Basilan, over 3,000 indigenous tree seedlings were planted, contributing to the Integrated Bangsamoro Greening Program (IBGP).

The campaign, which seeks to plant a million trees nationwide, emphasizes the importance of trees in mitigating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and securing a sustainable future. It aligns with PENREO Basilan’s commitment to restoring the province’s ecosystems through initiatives like the “Tree Growing Activity Buffer Project.”

In her speech, PENRE Officer Marietta R. Ladjiman expressed her gratitude to all involved and stressed the critical role trees play in environmental health.

“Every tree we plant today contributes to the health of our planet. Together, we are nurturing not just these trees but also hope for a greener, healthier future,” PENREO Ladjiman said.

On the other hand, the OVP, led by Zuhairah Abas, commended the PENREO Basilan for their dedication and urged continued participation in environmental preservation initiatives.

Following the program, the participants planted seedlings, such as Narra, Bayok, and Nato, aimed not only to reforest the area but also to strengthen the ecological balance of the region. Representatives from various government agencies, local stakeholders, and MENRE personnel participated.

The activity concluded with the completion of the tree-growing activity, a symbolic and meaningful close to a successful collaboration focused on protecting the environment and inspiring future generations.
