CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Presenting the updates on climate change initiatives, green technologies, sustainable resource management, and biodiversity conservation, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) attended the First Semester P-EAGA Environmental Cluster Meeting held at Amaya View Resort, Cagayan de Oro City from June 18-20.

Represented by Turtle Islands Protected Area Superintendent Minda J. Bairulla, the Ministry provided updates on the Turtle Islands Heritage Protected Area (TIHPA) and turtle conservation, highlighting the need for a sustainable financing mechanism for TIHPA, with support from P-EAGA officials and DENR 9.

Furthermore, representatives from MIMAROPA, Regions 9, 10, 11, 12, CARAGA, MinDA, and the LGU of General Santos also presented updates on their region.

Atty. Ma. Mercedes V. Dumagan, Deputy Head of the P-EAGA Environment Cluster, emphasized the meeting’s role in fostering knowledge sharing and collaborative efforts for a sustainable environment. Presentations covered the Carbon Sequestration study, GHG inventories, clean production practices for SMEs, and Region 13’s mangrove ecotourism initiatives. MinDA shared insights from strategic planning sessions held in Malaysia and Manila, while General Santos presented its Green City Action Plan.

The meeting also reviewed the progress and deliverables for inclusive, sustainable, and climate-resilient P-EAGA regions. Forester Luningning M. Dalayon, Head of the Technical Secretariat, recapped previous agreements and outlined nine agenda items for discussion.

The meeting concluded with a plan to conduct the 2nd Semester P-EAGA Environment cluster Meeting in November to be hosted by Region 11. The Ministry, on the other hand, will provide updates on the Assessment of Coastal and Marine Resources; TIWS will draft a sustainable financing development plan for the sustainable management of the area. The continued collaboration from member P-EAGA regions in advancing shared goals and objectives will pave the way for a cleaner, climate-resilient, and more sustainable environment for future generations
