LUGUS, Sulu – In line with the annual executive mine visit, MENRE Minister Akmad A. Brahim led the Multi-Partite Monitoring Team and reached the Lugus H and M Mining Corporation (LHMMC) on 10 February 2023 to inspect their conformity with mining and environmental laws.
The annual executive mine visit manifests the MENRE’s commitment to monitoring mining operations and ensuring compliance with government regulations will help ensure that mineral resources are managed and used responsibly and sustainably, benefiting everyone.
Minister Brahim emphasized that by working together, the government, mining companies, and local communities will help promote responsible mining and sustainable development in the Bangsamoro region.
Lugus Vice Mayor Almedzar A. Hajiri assisted Minister Brahim and was accompanied by Bangsamoro Director General (BDG) Atty. Badr E. Salendab, Mines and Geosciences Services (MGS) Director Raphael L. Remo, Engineer Jaynul-ali M. Sambarani, Provincial ENRE Officer Pao N. Dambong, Community ENRE Officers Hassan J. Eting, and Anthony P. Ancheta, and the technical personnel from regional and provincial offices.
The monitoring of LHMMC concludes the 2023 annual executive mine visit, which commenced on 6-7 February 2023 with four mining companies in the province of Tawi-Tawi.
Before the mine visit, Minister Brahim, BDG Atty. Salendab, and MGS Director Remo witnessed the oath-taking ceremony prepared by the Provincial ENRE Office of Sulu. A total of seventy-eight (78) employees have sworn their oath of office and moral governance.
“We are unique in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region as we have the oath of moral governance. This should be remembered as you go on with your duties and functions as Al-Khalifa or stewards of the environment,” BDG Atty. Salendab said after administering the oath of moral governance.
