OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental — Last 20-24 September 2022, the Oil and Gas Section of the Energy Management and Development Services (EMDS) of the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) – BARMM participated in the Joint Focused Inspection, Calibration and Testing Activity of the Department of Energy – Mindanao Field Office (DOE-MFO) at different liquid fuel outlets, gasoline stations and LPG establishments located in the Province of Misamis Occidental and Zamboanga del Norte, Region X, including the cities of Ozamiz and Oroquieta.

In collaboration with various government agencies such as the DILG DTI, PNP, DOST, PIA and the local government units, the activity aims to intensify the enforcement of laws, rules and regulations and standards pertinent to the downstream oil and gas industry.

Highlights of the activity include the inspections, calibrations, and sampling of liquid petroleum products in various gasoline stations/retail outlets, and tests of fuel quantity and quality using the DOE-Mobile Monitoring and Testing Lab (MMTL). A media briefing with stakeholders and partners was also organized as part of the information drive toward the compliance of concerned business with existing Philippine National Standards (PNS) for fuels, especially focusing on the presence of methanol in their liquid petroleum products

DOE also advises and warns the public that the unauthorized selling of liquid petroleum products and the use of inappropriate containers are illegal and unsafe.

This joint activity forms part of the continuing information-sharing and capacity-building assistance of DOE to MENRE to help the latter effectively perform its mandates and functions relevant to the downstream oil and gas industry in the BARMM.

The team was composed of different concerned government agencies, including DOE, MENRE, DOST, DTI, BFP, PNP and City and Municipal LGUs of Misamis Occidental. DOE assures the consumers that it will continue to hold such activities to ensure that fuels sold in the market comply with set standards.
