PASAY, Metro Manila — The Energy Management and Development Services (EMDS) attended the LPG Philippines Summit 2023 on March 2-3 2023 at the SMX Convention Center Manila. This activity, with a theme “Roadmap for the safe operation of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Industry”, was an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign by the Department of Energy (DOE) for raising the awareness of the Republic Act 11592, an act Establishing the Regulatory Framework for the Safe Operations of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Industry, Delineating the Powers and Functions of Various Government Agencies, Defining and Penalizing Certain Prohibited Acts.

The summit was spearheaded by the LPG Industry Association (LPGIA), LPG Safe Foundation, Inc., and LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA) Party-List in cooperation with the Department of Energy (DOE) Oil Industry Management Bureau and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). In attendance to the said event were the various stakeholders of the LPG industry such as trademark owners, marketers, refillers, dealers, retailers and government agencies involve in the regulation and enforcement of this LPG law. Member of the senate, specifically Senate president Vincente C. Sotto III and Senator Sherwin T. Gatchalian, who have a remarkable contribution to the passage of this law, also graced the event.

Various issues and concerns on the side of the trademark owners, marketers, refillers, dealers and retailers in the implementation of this law were addressed during this summit. Director Rino E. Abad of DOE Oil Industry Management Bureau (OIMB) emphasized that all prohibited acts in this law were already prohibited before this law was enacted. Senator Gatchalian reiterated that the two features of this law were “Safety” and “Power of Choice”.
