GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Central Office continues to provide support to the Bangsamoro Government as the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) – BARMM received technical assistance and was capacitated by DENR on relevant environmental laws, rules, and regulations.

The DENR Central Office-sponsored activity was facilitated by the DENR Region 12 Office. Representatives from the MENRE, especially its Environmental Management Specialists from the Regional and Provincial Offices, attended the 3-day capacity building activity at Greenleaf Hotel, General Santos City last 9-11 November 2021.

The participants got oriented about the Republic Acts 9275 (Clean Water Act), 6969 (Toxic, Substances and Hazardous Waste Management Act), 9512 (Environmental Awareness and Education Act), 8749 (Clean Air Act), Presidential Decree 1586 (Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System), and DAO 2014-02 or the Revised Guidelines on PCO Accreditation.

“Knowing the law and becoming knowledgeable about its rules and regulations will capacitate us in strengthening the implementation and enforcement of these policies,” MENRE Environment Management Services Director Jalani M. Pamlian said.

DENR was also able to impart knowledge on water and wastewater laboratory analysis, climate change and ozone depleting substances, and legalities of environmental cases.

Present during the capdev were EMB Director Engr. William D. Cunado, Usec for Field Operations in Luzon Atty. Juan Miguel T. Cuna, EMB-12 Regional Director Engr. Omar M. Saikol, and several Division and Section Chiefs who served as resource speakers for the discussions.
