COTABATO CITY – The Institute of Bangsamoro Studies (IBS) and the BARMM Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE), in partnership with The Asia Foundation, launched on September 2 a series of knowledge-sharing and policy discourse events aimed at addressing the pressing challenges of climate change in the Bangsamoro region.

The first series, “Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation for a Resilient Bangsamoro,” convened experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for mitigating climate change impacts and building resilience in the region.

In his keynote address, MENRE Minister Akmad A. Brahim outlined the government’s strategies for combating climate change and ensuring the region’s sustainability. Meanwhile, MENRE’s Forest Management Services Director Abdul-Jalil S. Umngan elaborated on MENRE’s mandate and strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

A distinguished panel of experts, including Dr. Nassef Manabilang Adiong and Uztadh Muhammad Nadzir Ebil, further discussed climate change policies, strategies, best practices, and research agendas.

The panel discussion promoted multisectoral engagement, featuring representatives from various sectors, including the Ulama and religious sector, youth sector, women sector, local government units, civil society organizations, and academic institutions.

This initiative underscores the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in addressing climate change challenges. By bringing together diverse stakeholders and leveraging expertise from various fields, the series aims to foster innovative solutions and inform policy development.
