To raise the awareness of environmental stakeholders in Sulu about the programs and services of the Environment Management Services (EMS) of the MENRE-BARMM, the EMS and the Provincial ENRE Office visited the province’s municipal local government officials and business establishments last 13-14 September 2022.

Before giving courtesy calls to the LGUs, the EMS coordinated first with the MILG Sulu office and discussed Sulu LGUs’ compliance with the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. The LGUs of Parang, Maimbung, Indanan, Jolo, Luuk, Panamao, Omar, Kalingalan Caluang, Panglima Estino, and Patikul received a visit from the EMS to assess their compliance with the said Republic Act, determine the development of their Solid Waste Management Plan, and identify technical assistance that could be provided if necessary.

The EMS also took advantage of their time in the province as they conducted quick meetings with several beach and business owners in Parang and Jolo to initially check their environmental compliance. The Jolo Diesel Power Plant and some gasoline stations were visited and inspected for their adherence to existing environmental laws and regulations.
